Explaining the Education Path to Obtain Pharmacist Jobs

July 3rd, 2009 by Amy Nutt

The Pharmaceutical industry is growing in leaps and bounds. Most people can say that theyve viewed a commercial about a new drug thats been developed or spent time talking with a pharmacy tech at their local drug store. With earnings averaging in the mid to high $100K annual range, and an above average growth rate expected for careers, there are many opportunities to work in this field if this interests you. Heres how you can find the right education path you need to obtain pharmacist jobs.

A pharmacist job generally requires a good deal of education, starting with a Bachelors degree in Science from an accredited college or university. In 1992, a majority of the nations schools voted to create a Doctorate program in pharmaceutical studies, so that is generally the standard that professional pharmacists adhere to in their educational pursuits. So, on average, Pharmacists must get the same number of years of education as a Physician or Lawyer before they can take a state board exam and become a professional working pharmacist. Thats a total of six years of post-secondary education.

In general, the education that pharmacists must have consists of studies in Pharmacology (the study of drugs), Chemistry, Clinical Care and Administration. In addition, pharmacists must have a solid background in mathematics and general biological science. Excellent writing and communications skills are vital to success in pharmacy as are knowledge of literature, history, government and social studies. Pharmacy is unique in that it combines the people aspect of care to the field of science, so being able to manage people and their needs is an important skill for any pharmacist to have.

In addition to the regular college classes they take, many pharmacists choose to work in either a pharmacy technician program as part of their learning process. There are multiple opportunities for pharmacy students to get all or part of their educational expenses paid for while they are in school if they become employed by a major pharmaceutical company or retailer. There is a big need for skilled pharmacists so companies are often ready to help with the costs of education to recruit them after graduation.

Once all college or university courses have been completed, the next step in the process is to take a state licensing exam. This is similar to a doctor or legal professional taking their state board exams. At the successful completion of the testing process, the pharmacy student or technician may begin working as a professional pharmacist. Each year, pharmacists are required to retrain or get additional coursework to keep their licenses and knowledgebase up to date.

Becoming a pharmacist is a rewarding career choice for individuals who enjoy helping others manage their medical care via drugs and medicine treatments. This allows them to work with patient care, but stay out of the clinical setting. By following the above tips, you can be well on your way to getting an education in pharmacy too.

USA Travel - Miami City Profile

July 3rd, 2009 by Roger Overton

Miami sometimes feels like a huge Hollywood set. The cliches about the city and its illustrious beach community, Miami Beach - nearly all of which are based in fact - are but a small part of Miami’s colourful mosaic.

International financial deals are not the only thing happening in Miami. The city’s concerts, theatre performances, gallery exhibits, ballet companies and museums offer plentiful cultural stimulation and world-class entertainment. Located in picturesque south Florida, Miami is a popular location for television and movie crews.

Fashion photographers from glossy magazines pose their models against the backdrop of the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico or the deep blue Atlantic Ocean. Looking at Miami’s striking skyline, home to corporate headquarters of hundreds of international financial institutions, it is hard to image that until recently southern Florida was a landscape dominated by mosquito-infested swamps. The first Spanish explorers of the region, arriving in 1513 with Ponce de Leon, declared it completely uninhabitable.

The real history of the city, which was founded on 28 July 1896, began with the advent of the railway. Freezing Canadians and New Yorkers climbed aboard to escape to beautiful, sunny Miami. In the 1920s, during the days of Prohibition, Miami was known as a city with legalized gambling and less than serious efforts to enforce the ban on alcohol. The result was a building boom. Little by little, starting with hotels and apartments, the Miami skyline began to rise.

Melting pot for Latin Americans. After Fidel Castro seized power in Cuba in 1959, a stream of refugees poured into south Florida. The impact was enormous. Hoards of Cuban refugees arrived in Miami, settling in the neighbourhood called “Little Havana”. There, salsa music resounds in the streets, men play dominos and chess in the parks, and the air is thick with the aroma of coffee and cigar smoke.

A trip along the palm-tree-lined Ocean Drive, Miami Beach’s famous boulevard in the heart of its famous Art Deco district, offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, the beach and, of course, the rich and famous. With its uniquely “Miami Style” Art Deco architecture, the entire district is under historic protection today Rich with pastel colours and full of eclectic details, there is no other cityscape like it on Earth.

Unfortunately, the building boom of the 1920s also caused considerable damage to the natural environment. Over 120 hectares of the unique Everglades wetlands were drained to provide Miami with water and sewage facilities and dry land on which to build. Even today, south Florida draws millions of litre of water from the Everglades.

Interrupting the water cycle that supplies this magnificent natural landscape with moisture and nutrients diminishes the vitality of the biosphere. At present, national parks and wildlife preserves protect barely 20 per cent of the Everglades watershed.. The unique flora and fauna of the Everglades were added to the UNESCO List of World Natural Heritage Sites in 1979. Still, the environment was classified as endangered in 1993.

No stay in Miami would be complete without a short trip to Coral Gables, one of the first planned communities in the country. Distinguished by its beautiful Spanish colonial-style villas, Coral Gables also boasts elegant country clubs, world-class art galleries and the University of Miami.

How to Get the Most out of Your Las Vegas Vacation Package

July 3rd, 2009 by Amy Nutt

If you are headed to Las Vegas, you need to know exactly how to get the most out of the Las Vegas vacation packages you are considering. The better you plan before you go, the more fulfilling and fun your vacation will be. Consider these tips as you choose, and then use your vacation package.

Research Before You Buy

Before you even begin shopping for vacation packages, do a little groundwork. There is more to see and do in Las Vegas than you could ever do on one trip. Make a list of the things you absolutely want to see and do, and those that are optional. This will help you find the best possible Las Vegas vacation package.

Consider a Themed Package

If you know a certain theme that you wish to explore as you are in Las Vegas, consider a themed package. Perhaps you are traveling with kids and wish to see the kid-friendly attractions. Maybe you are traveling with your “special someone” and wish for a more romantic experience. A themed package will ensure that you see all of the attractions that fit your needs while you are in Las Vegas.

Shop for an All Inclusive Package

To make your vacation as affordable and hassle-free as possible, consider shopping for an all-inclusive package. Remember that all-inclusive may not actually include everything, but you can find a package that covers lodging, entertainment, and travel. Some will even include food vouchers. The more that you have included in your package, the less you will have to concern yourself with as you plan.

Plan Some Flexibility

Some Las Vegas vacation packages can bee too confining. If you have every single day planned to the letter, you might not enjoy your trip. Consider building a “free” day into your trip, so you can spend it however you wish. Once you arrive you might find that there is a show or attraction you want to see that is not on the schedule, and you will want to have the flexibility to do that. If you already have activities planned for every day with tickets that you have paid for, you are not going to be able to squeeze in those other activities.

Shop Around Before You Buy

Remember, a vacation package may be the most convenient way to purchase your Las Vegas vacation, but it is not always the most affordable. If you are on a tight budget, make sure you shop around before you buy. Check how much it would cost to get your lodging, airfare, and activities in the package compared to buying them separately from various discount travel sites.

Book Early

Some of the hottest shows in Las Vegas sell out almost the instant tickets go on sale. The best accommodations will be booked early too. To have the vacation you are dreaming of, book your vacation package early. As soon as you know your travel dates, get online and get the package booked. This is the only way to ensure that you get the shows, lodging, and activities you want scheduled into your trip.

A vacation package takes much of the hassle out of planning a trip to Las Vegas. With a little planning ahead and shopping around, you can get the most out of your Las Vegas vacation package.

Which Australian National Park Is Right For You?

July 3rd, 2009 by Jennifer Schellington

Australia is the driest continent in the world and is part of a former giant land mass, Gondwana, which connected the southern continents of Africa, Antarctica, Australia, India and South America, and broke up more than 100 million years ago.

There are 25 million hectares of National Park in Australia (3% of the total size of Australia,) and this equaes to 516 parks in total.

Most of the parks are serviced by the local state government e.g. parks that are in NSW are looked after by the NSW government. There are some parks however that are seen to be very special and these are run by the Federal Government.

No visit to Australia is complete without a trip to at least one National Park. Most of its famous natural attractions are in one of the parks anyway, so by default, you’ll end up visiting.

Which ones are the best National Parks to visit? It’s certainly not feasible to visit or tell you about all 516. I will however tell you which are my favourites.

Lets firstly understand a bit more about how the parks operate. Don’t be fooled by the name Park. These areas can be very large indeed and generally include areas where endangered species such as animals or plant species live or where there are ancient rock formations like the home of Ayers Rock in Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. Most visitors to one of the National Parks only touch a small piece of the park given their sheer size. There are others however that are smaller allowing you to cover more ground.

The majority of parks require an entrance fee. This can be by person or by vehicle depending on the park. It’s not normally very much (around $10) but for popular parks such as Ayers Rock, you can expect to pay more. Most passes give you unlimited access to the park for 48 hours.

Camping in the National Parks

There’s nothing better than camping in some of the best scenery in Australia. This is for you if you like the open air and don’t have a fear of snakes and spiders (it’s not that bad really!) Most parks have specific areas for camping with strict campfire rules given the risk of bush fires. Don’t expect the luxury of hot running water though. The facilities are usually very basic but there are a few that offer hot showers operated by coins.

You generally need a permit to camp in the National Parks and places are limited. In the peak of summer it can sometimes be hard to find camping spots available so you need to book well in advance. The government websites will allow you to search for campsites. Remember that you will need to do this for EACH state given that the parks are run by the state government. Over Christmas when it is really busy, some of the national parks run a ballot system. If your name is picked out of the hat, you are one of the lucky ones (this is how it works in Freycinet National Park in Tasmania)

It can be a little subjective picking the best Australian National Parks to visit. Below you will find my top 3 but visit the website below for more information on great Australian National Parks.

Best for Beaches and Coastal Views

Lord Howe Island is one of the only Australian islands to have been added to the UNESCO world heritage list due its pristine beauty. Only 400 tourists are allowed on the island at any one time to ensure its prefect-ness is maintained! This is a perfect place to experience fantastic marine life and glorious walking through forests and mountains. You can explore the Valley of the shadows, filled with 40-metre high forests of Kentia palms and towering banyan trees. The day walk up Mount Gower is one of the best day walks to do in Australia. You can also walk to Kims lookout and enjoy great views across the lagoon to the southern tip of the island.

Best for Spiritual Rock Formations

Uluru Kata Tjuta is probably the most visited National Park in Australia given its the home of Ayers Rock. This is a world Heritage listed site for its culture and natural values. It is the heart of the red centre and a very spiritual place indeed. Clearly its about visiting the rock, either at sunset or sunrise (when the rock is at its very best due to the light that is cast upon it.) There are special viewing platforms where you can park up and enjoy the views. Get there early though as the best positions go quickly. The sunrise and sunset dinners are also worth going to but not both. Just pick one. The park itself is split into two ” Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta, where the Olgas are. I personal thought the Olgas were more impressive than the rock so a visit to both is highly recommended. There is a great Cultural Centre that you should visit first. This will inform you of all the walks and when the guided ones are available. Theres often some Aboriginals here too selling locally made products. The most popular walk is the Base walk which takes in the entire base of the rock which is about 9km in total. It says to leave approx 4 hours but you can do it much more quickly than that and still have time to take photographs. Some get to the rock and insist on climbing it. First, if its a hot day, they close the climb. More importantly, you just shouldnt make the climb given its totally against the local aboriginals culture and beliefs. Its also extremely steep and apart from a small iron rope to hold onto, there is nothing. Its very dangerous.

The Grampians National Park is one of Victoria’s largest parks and has great walks, scenery and wildlife. Its 260km from Melbourne along the Western or Glenelg highways (takes about 3.5 hours) The Grampians are a series of sandstone ridges with steep slopes and are very picturesque. The most spectacular waterfall is Mackenzie Falls. You can also see good Aboriginal rock art at Billimina and Wab Manja. There are a couple of 2 day walks for the serious walkers amongst you. But for the best view of the park head to Mount Abrupt. Access to the park is at Halls Gap. But if you want to escape the tourists head to Wartook Valley, e.g. Mt Zero and Mt Stapylton. For the really adventurous go for Mount Difficult which is hard going but amazing. Stony Creek Track to the Bundaleer passing Stony Peak is another good one. You can ascend the Wall of China to obtain the vast views to Tower Hill and the picturesque Victoria Valley.

Many holiday tourists as well as business travelers come to visit this city; therefore New York has a huge number of accommodation options which vary from inexpensive ones to lavish ones. So, now here are some of the hourly rate hotels in New York City:

1. The Windjammer Motel Inn This is one of the most economical hourly hotels located in Sheepshead Bay, New York City. 3. Airway Inn The Airway Inn is situated nearby LaGuardia, and the presence of hotel nearby makes it very appropriate for the travelers. The Airway Inn Authorities provide accommodations for prostitutes and lovers too. The charges are $61 for four hours and after 9p: m it is $70 for four hours.

International Students Top Ten Best US Cities to Visit

July 2nd, 2009 by Sheri Park

The international student often has a dilemma - how to see the USA in a sometimes limited amount of time and money? In a geographically large area like the US, it is quite impossible to see it all. The student must therefore pick and choose, often selecting cities that are the most unique, the most fun, the most cultural, or the most “American”.

Boston Academy of English offers a unique look at the top ten US cities for international visitors to experience. While these are the opinions of one, they are shared by many native US citizen as well as those who have visited from abroad.

1. New York City, “The Big Apple”

New York City is the heart of America in so many ways. Citizens of the world have heard of the amazing experiences awaiting them on a trip to the Big Apple. New York City has the best restaurants and entertainment, the tallest skyscrapers, the brightest nightlife, all open and waiting for you. New York is incredibly international as you can find neighborhood communities representing the world. However, the many adventures in NY can be tainted by the rudeness of many New Yorkers. Many New Yorkers have reputations of being busy, rushed, and impatient.

2. Washington D.C.

This city is more of a monument, or a collection of museums and iconic buildings, distributed in a symmetrical array along the “Mall”. The national museums and art galleries are also mostly free of charge - this is one visit that is easy on the wallet. Can’t miss.

3. Boston, “Beantown”

This city really has it all, and is the location of more students per capita than anywhere else. Sure, Harvard and MIT are here, but so are more than 100 colleges and universities, and it is rumored that the best English is spoken here. The vibe is European - summer and autumn are particularly beautiful.

4. “Only in San Francisco”

San Francisco is known as being one of the most beautiful American cities. It is built high up on hilly land surrounded by the Bay. The area is known for the trolley car system of travel and the antique cable car system has become world known. This is a great tourist city with Fisherman’s Wharf, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz prison,

5. Chicago

The U.S.’s second biggest city has many nicknames: “The Windy City”, “The City of Broad Shoulders”, “That toddlin’ town”, and is best represented as a large city with sophisticated amenities and superb restaurants, yet a small-town friendliness not found elsewhere. A great stop-off between the East and West coasts.

6. LA, California

LA is like a series of highways connected together overlapping than a city with a clear center to it. You will need a car and a lot of patience but making the drive to the beautiful beaches of Santa Monica, star watching in Hollywood, shopping on Rodeo Drive, and staring at the mansions of Beverly Hills is worth the trip. The area is very spread out and overall there is a mellow feel to the entire area.

7. Miami, Florida

Unbelievable beaches in a tropical environment year round, Miami located in Southern Florida is full of Latin American flair all without needing a passport. Try out Little Havana for some “Ropa Veija” and authentic Cuban dish you will not soon forget.

8. Orlando, home of Disney World

You will not find yourself lost as Orlando is a city run around the theme parks they offer and there are so many signs pointing you in the right directions. Best to take the many busses offered than to drive yourself. But the fun, thrills, and adventure you can have in Orlando are the memories worth making.

9. Las Vegas

This is Orlando for grown-ups. You can do it all here - literally. The hotel themes are interesting enough that you don’t even really need to gamble to appreciate it, but it helps. Red Rock Canyon 20 minutes outside of the city is a beautiful natural wonder. Temperatures in summer often top 100 degrees F (40 degrees C).

10. San Diego

With its great weather, miles of sandy beaches, and major attractions, San Diego is known worldwide as one of the best tourist destinations for people of all ages and form all backgrounds. Known for any things but you cannot visit here without visiting the best zo in the country.

Buen viaje!(Spanish) Have a good trip!

Sneaky Snakes

July 2nd, 2009 by Joshua Biggar

Snakes. Just the mention of the word can send chills up the spine or send one fleeing in the opposite direction. To some they are just scary, slithery, sinister serpents. However, they are also sneaky. Yes, sneaky. The serpent has been known for its sneakiness since the beginning. Remember Eve? It was because of the sneaky sales pitch of the serpent that Eve “bought”, Adam “bit” , and they were both “booted out” of the Garden of Eden. Oh yes, snakes can be extremely sneaky, and can show their craftiness in a variety of ways.

The American Copperhead is a great example of a cunning culprit. This snake has a rust and copper colored body with dark crisscrossing bands. It has a bright copper colored head, hence the name, Copperhead. This snake is easily recognizable, that is if you see it. Because of the snake’s markings, they are easily hidden. Let this snake curl up on a pile of fallen leaves and you may never even know it was there. Pretty slick huh? But that’s not all. These snakes learn how to be masters of guile at a very early age, as a matter of fact from the moment they are born. The baby Copperhead is born with a yellow tipped tail which it uses to lure unsuspecting prey. The juvenile snake hides beneath the leaves and sticks its wiggling tail up. The tail, resembling a grubworm, attracts moles, mice, and other such rodents. When the small mixed-up mammals take the bait, the clever Copperhead enjoys his dinner.

Besides being deceitful for dinner, snakes also use their misleading mannerisms to protect themselves. The colorful yet, allusive Coral Snake, for instance, will curl up and hide its head underneath its body when it feels threatened. Then it bends and presents its tail in such a way that it looks just like the snake’s head. When a predator attempts to attack, the snake bites back injecting neurotoxic venom paralyzing its victim. The predator in this case sometimes becomes the prey.

Just as the Coral Snake has an ingenious way of protecting itself, so does the Coral Snake Copy Cat, the Scarlet Kingsnake. This snake uses its looks to confound and confuse. The nonvenomous Scarlet Kingsnake very much resembles the very venomous Coral Snake. The kingsnake has the same colors of red, black, and yellow. The difference, however, is in the pattern. The old rhyme “Red meets yellow, Kill a fellow, Red meets black, Friend of Jack”, helps us to aptly identify the snake, but thoroughly mixes up would be predators and sometimes helps prevent this “legless lizard” from becoming lunch.

Yes, snakes are still as sneaky as ever. They still bewilder, beguile, and sometimes even bewitch. They are masters of disguise as well as masters of deception and they probably always will be. So if you happen up on one of these “sneaky snakes”, just acknowledge, admire, and then allow him to do his thing.

Can You Really Afford Second Citizenship?

July 2nd, 2009 by Tracey Gordon

This is not a question that is being asked lightly in regards to getting second citizenship. If you think that it is going to be cheap or inexpensive to do this, you need to think again. You need to be ready to do some currency conversions folks.

When money is no object, you tend to overlook the small stuff (extra fees and add-ons such as paying additional fees to change over your Drivers License) that you are likely to pay in the dual citizenship process. Those that have the financial means do not worry about this. You will find that many wealthy people also have citizenship in more than one country.

The question then becomes: are you really prepared to pay the large amounts that are requested (and required) to get dual citizenship documentation issued by immigration? If you are not prepared for (or cannot afford) to pay the fees that are involved, you need to know this ahead of time.

Many people are taken by surprise about the fees involved if they do not think far enough ahead to ask an expert in this particular field on immigration. Checking out any of the many articles and websites (such as www.right-way.net) to know what you should expect is also a good thought.

Wealthy people (individuals and families) are some of those that really enjoy having second citizenship in countries where they are doing business. Wanting to move to and live in another country is not a crime; more like something that is more common than you may think. Businesses do not have a problem helping their individual workers settle in a new country.

This (and providing the necessary documentation) will get you a Local ID, second passport and Naturalization Certification from the Nicaraguan immigration authorities. This is something that you will need to know ahead of time.

This is also something that well-to-do like to know ahead of time: what is it going to require? For some dual citizenship is not a luxury, it is necessary. This is why so many websites and articles have popped up along the lines of right-way.net; to guide and help advise those looking into secondary citizenship.

Are you aware that having a second passport can be a bit problematic at times? This is something that even money cannot take care of. Questions need to be asked ahead of time.
